How can I play a torrent downloaded movie with an avi extension in WMP?

Ok, I've downloaded this movie of over 800 mb and now I cant play it even with vlc player. There is only a 5 sec video message saying I should use windows media player to play the file but when I use it I'm redirected to this lame site with a codec error message. How on earth can I play this movie since I've been searching for it quite a long time, Please help me!
