Well I'm thinking of picking up Mandolin (details)?

I'm wondering how hard it is, where I can get a good cheap one. I've heard it's a mixture of the cello and the guitar, which I completely don't get, but I'm wondering what you guys think. How hard is it? Where should I start? I do play cello and guitar. I'm wondering if it'd be simple for me to pick up.
